In previous posts, I shared what we have seen and what we have learned during our dad and son trip through Europe last year. In this closing blog post, I would like to share how did I prepare and what technology I used to help to make our trip the most effective, smooth and memorable. I was travelling on my own with 6yo kid. We didn’t want to rush, so we designed our trip in a way that the distance to go every day was not vast. We allowed for spontaneity and thanks to this principle we saw a lot of beautiful places. It was amazing.
On the other hand, I knew that travelling with a kid will be challenging and I felt responsible. I allowed to be spontaneous, but I also prepared as much as I could. I would like to share some tactics, applications and tools for travelling. I hope it may inspire you and it will be helpful.

We now have a couple days left on our dad and son trip. Zurich was the most distant place on our journey, and we are now going back to Memmingen. Today we stop in another beautiful place, Saint Gallen. It is known for the beautiful cathedral. We are well prepared. We stay here for just one night, so everything is planned; parking, self-checking hotel in the center of the town. We should have nice, easy and relaxing day. What we didn’t plan for was the situation when technology fails.

In the previous post, I presented a list of on-line resources that may help when we need to work from home and also manage with homeschooling, education and also entertain our kids. It looks like it is a popular topic these days, so I would like to present another way to keep the whole family entertained. Google 3D Augmented Reality. Thanks to this technology you can experience real size animals like tiger in your living room, a snake in your shower, or a bear in your garden. Thanks to Google collaboration with NASA, you can also generate some planets, including the Earth 🌏 load into your bedroom and have a vertical journey with your little astronauts before you go to sleep.

On-line resources for working from home with kids

Working from home with kids and your partner at home is challenging. We need to create a new routine. We need to be flexible. Work needs to be synchronised with your team and spouse, especially if they can also work from home. But how about kids? They need to carry on education. Children need to be entertained and taken care of. First of all – take it easy – try to agree with your partner when you can take care of children and when your spouse can spend time with them as you need to take this call or do something on your list for today. And secondly, make sure you get creative and prepare a routine for your kids and yourself. Below is the list of some online resources that can help to compile some activity lists for our little ones.

It was during my one-on-one meeting with one of my engineers when the external screen went black. Then I realised I lost the audio too. I was already blaming technology, clicking various things on my laptop, when I spotted that more things were off. It was a power blackout in my home office. Obviously, my laptop was still working thanks to the battery, so it took me a while to realise nothing else worked. Work from home and power outage. What a combo!
