Immediately lock your Mac πŸ”’

“Beers on me. I love you guys!”

I received that email addressed to all.lon@ address, meaning that everyone in the London office received it too.

I was new, so I thought this was the way to start organising our weekly Friday drinks. Rather a strange way.

It was not a very long time after when we all received a follow-up message saying:

“Alright, alright, I’ll lock my screen next time. The show is over.”

It was one of the unwritten cyber security rules.
You leave your screen unlocked, and you buy the whole office drinks.

The second time you would have more serious conversations with your boss.

πŸ”₯ So, why should you always lock your screen?

πŸ’Έ First, it keeps nosy co-workers or family members from snooping around on your computer.
You may save a few ££ on rounds of drinks… And a lot of ££££ for the company too!

πŸ¦Ήβ€β™‚οΈ Second, it keeps your sensitive information safe from prying eyes.
Did you know 80% of cyber attacks come from inside the network?

πŸ€“ And third, it just makes sense- why risk someone else accessing your stuff?
It’s just like locking your front door when you leave your house.

So, do yourself (and your secrets) a favour and lock that screen!

If you’re stepping away from your desk at home or the office and you don’t want someone snooping around on your Mac, press this shortcut, and your Mac will immediately switch to the lock screen.

⌘+Control+Q

It’s a heck of a lot faster than doing it through the menu bar.
